Who Makes Dishwashers for the U.S.?

In 1997, Consumers Union issued ratings for 19 models of dishwashers available throughout the U.S. The dishwashers were of 10 different brands, which seems like a large variety of makers to choose from. However, as of 2011, these 10 brands (and many others) are made by just 3 companies!

AmanaWhirlpool Corporation, Benton Harbor, Mich.
FrigidaireElectrolux Corporation, Stockholm, Sweden.
G.E.General Electric Corporation, Fairfield, Conn.
HotpointGeneral Electric Corporation
KenmoreWhirlpool Corporation (for Sears)
KitchenAidWhirlpool Corporation (high-priced line; acquired 1986)
Magic ChefWhirlpool Corporation
MaytagWhirlpool Corporation
WhirlpoolWhirlpool Corporation
White-Westinghouse*Electrolux Corporation

* Discontinued.

G.E. also makes R.C.A. products.
Whirlpool also makes Admiral, Jenn-Air, Roper (low-priced line; since 1988), and Estate (institutional line; since 1990) products.
Electrolux also makes Gibson and Tappan products.

(Although Whirlpool used to be sold as R.C.A. Whirlpool, Whirlpool was never owned by R.C.A. It used the name with R.C.A.'s permission after acquiring R.C.A.'s old Estate division.)

I am indebted to Barnes Appliance Outlet for pointing out this multiplicity of brands by a few companies.
