We have several of these handrails.  The most heavily used one
snapped off at the floor flange after a few months' use.  So did
its replacement.

Part of the cause may have been that the wall end was screwed
to plastic wall anchors which came loose.  I just installed
a third such handrail, screwing it to a board screwed to the
wall studs.  We'll see whether it helps.

I know of no competing product!

So far the new handrail shows no sign of weakness.
