J. C. PENNEY Stereo System <683-1840> A bargain stereo system for the non-audiophile with a collection of old media. AM-FM radio, phonograph, and dual audiocassette with fast copy; no compact disc player. The phonograph plays at 33-1/3 and 45 r.p.m., with automatic shutoff but no changer. Volume control is awkward: one button for louder, one for softer. There are a headphone jack and a short row of slide switches for those who like to play with such things. We paid about $100 in 1996 including bookshelf speakers and shipping.
