This puzzle was inspired by a suggestion from László Molnár. Some correspondents have pointed out that it resembles Stewart Coffin's Unhappy Childhood puzzle, shown here at Puzzle Will Be Played. It also resembles my two-dimensional puzzle Triple Play.
